Life: Alan Alexander Milne was born in London, England on January 18,1882. He was the youngest child of Sarah Maria
Heginbotham and John Vine Milne. His father was the headmaster at Henley House, a private school, where Milne received his early education. At the age of
nine, Milne and his brother Kenneth,who he looked up to the most, along with a childhood friend, dramatized a novel they had read. This exercise awakened his love of theater. In 1893, Milne began his studies at Westminster School as a Queen's Scholar. Next he attended Cambridge University, following in his brother's footsteps. He was elected the editor of the literary magazine, Granta. Milne also wrote light verse for this publication. In 1903, he graduated with third honors in mathematics from Trinity College at Cambridge. Milne followed his dream and became a very well known writer of many kinds of books.
Time Period:Milne joined the army two weeks after he got married. He began as a signaling officer for the Fourth Royal Warwichshire Regiment during World War One. He later served as an instructor on the Isle of Wright. In his time of service, he wrote morale plays to uplift the spirits of the soldiers. He told his men to referr to him as Mr. Milne instead of Captain or Sgt. In August 1916, Milne and four other guys were set out to run telephone cables so during attack they would still be able to maintain communication with the headquarters. In November 1916, A.A. Milne caught trench fever and was evacuated into England to recover. He retired the Militay in 1918.
